Capt. Jim Hobales

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

I am with Eric Weikal today at Flamingo, I netted a load of bait and went chumming with them. We worked the coast and got into some nice Snook which didn't want to eat. The big Trout were in a trough and did co operate, Eric got some really big Trout on fly rod. The fish didn't respond to the chumming although we did catch a little bit of everything and ended the day with a small Tarpon.

I am with Keith Marks and his son Tim, we netted bait then the fun started. They caught Snook up to 9 lbs., a few nice Redfish. They were double up on Trout, Jacks and Ladyfish for 1 1/2 hours straight on every cast. We ended the day trying to get Tim a big Shark, his rod doubled over and we we hooked up. I started to reel in the second rod and it was hooked up to a giant Bull Shark. We had one going east and one going west! I told Tim to open his bail so I could get some line back on the one going east The first run was over 200 yards! Tim said he got cut off so we were able to concentrate on Keiths Shark. The Shark was big, we saw the an explosion and the jump on first run. Keith put the heat on and was huffing and puffing (sorry Keith) to be fair it was a giant Shark on 20 lb line. It seemed like a long time, we got it close and got cut off next to the boat. I said that's a great way to end the day Keith agreed!

I am with the Accurate reels guys Ben, Dave and Alvin today and we are putting their new 4000 series reel to the test. I have known Ben for a while and fished together a couple times, he's an excellent caster. He was throwing the Halco roosta popper while being video taped and had a Redfish blow up an cue, it was pretty cool.

We caught plenty of Snook, Redfish, 2 Tarpon,Trout, Jacks and Ladyfish to see how the reel worked. Dave hooked a 20 plus lbs. Snook which was the highlight of the day. I don't think anyone was disappointed today

I am with Dave, Alvin and Tim from Halco lures Australia today. The catching started out quickly while I was catching mullet, The mullet schools were getting busted up and these guys started to cast at them, they caught a couple big Ladyfish and Jacks. I netted some mullet and we were off to catch something of quality. The Redfish were really co-operating early today, I had them pitching into the trees and eventually we caught a couple Snook as well as some 14 inch Mangrove Snapper. The day went well every time we moved we found Snook or Redfish. Tim Finally got to show off how his lures worked they make a cool jig which produced a big Redfish on first cast.

Tim was casting the Halco Hamma and got slammed the fish pulled but let go. Tim threw right back in and got hit again this time the fish is on and running. Tim can fish, he got the 8 lb. Snook in the boat pretty quick considering the current we were in. Alvin got one shortly after and the Dave got in on the action. Check the lures out at www.halcolures.com. they have some different stuff all of them worked.
