It's Catch and Release Time for lots of Snook in South Florida

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

The summer rains have arrived to South Florida sparking the beginning of the snook spawning season. Snook season has closed on both coasts as the fish do their romantic thing but they can still be targeted for catch and release. I only mention this because if you have never caught a snook of size than this is the time to do it. During my last three Flamingo trips using live baits and artificial lures my clients have had over 30 shots at snook and have caught and released as many as 13 in a day up to 13 pounds. Besides the snook that my clients are catching on light 10 pound Daiwa Lexa spinning gear and Key largo Rods my clients have had over a dozen slot size redfish during a charter plus tarpon, ladyfish, snapper, jacks, sharks of all sizes, jacks, catfish and tripletail. We have seen deer on the road in the Park, raccoon's on the shorelines, big sea turtles, manatees that have swum right up to the boat, crocodiles and huge sharks. Bait has been easy to catch and the storms that we see on the east coast have not bothered us at all in Flamingo. Not a bad way to spend a day!

In North Bay snook but not as many, tarpon that have been tough to catch, small jacks, snapper and barracudas plus a few real nice sea trout are available in the mornings. Once the sun gets high the fishing has tapered off. Baitfish schools have been hard to catch in North Bay so artificial lures are the way to go.

The offshore fishing has been decent when you can catch enough bait to go offshore. Once the bait has been obtained there are dolphins of all sizes, kingfish, bonitos, blackfin tuna and sailfish on the surface and nice groupers and snappers over some of the bottom spots.

Freshwater fishing in the Glades has been excellent but recent rain storms have made it tough to put in a full day and the water levels are starting to rise spreading the fish out.
Check out the pictures of recent catches by my clients!
Father's Day is this Sunday and it is not too late to get your Dad or Husband that Yamaha outboard engine that is on sale. Go to Bob Hewes Boats and ask Pedro Molina what kind of deal he can hook you up with on that new Yamaha outboard engine. And don't forget about that special warranty that is being offered right now.
Engel coolers are another nice gift for dad and these coolers will keep ice for up to seven days.
Did you know that Salt Life products offers top notch Polarized sunglasses that have Zeiss lenses. What is Zeiss? Only the best optic lenses on the market. See what you are about to catch before the fish sees you!
StowMaster nets the best landing nets on the market. They fold and stow out of the way!
Mustad hooks! Only the best and sharpest hooks on the market!
Rapala lures the only hard plastic lures I use.
Hookup lures! I catch more fish on the Hookup lures tipped with a Gulp or Trigger X soft plastic.
Cajun Thunder floats! Lots of imitations but none work like the Cajun Thunder float!
Humminbird, I-Pilot and Talon! If your serious about fishing and don't have one of these on your boat that you're really not a serious fishermen are you!
General Motors! How else are you going to get there!
