Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report
Making a crossing to the Bahamas(Chub Cay) you usually have one thing on your mind before the trip and that's good weather. Aboard the Connie Marie for the crossing was Todd, James, Tony and myself and all four of us had that in mind, but mother nature had her own plans and did not give us a break until Sunday that we crossed back to Miami. We crossed last week Thursday and the crossing from Miami to Chub Cay took us 10 hours due to the rough seas. The rest of our weekend was windy/rainy keeping us at the dock most of the time. We did manage to get out 2 of the 4 days and fish for a few hours each day. We put out the marlin spread only to have 15-25lb dolphin crush the lures/teasers. We had some fun catching nice dolphin on the troll and spinning gear. I also managed to hook a big dolphin on fly and after a long fight the hook pulled. Despite the bad weather we managed to have a good time. Maybe next time we will have better weather and maybe that marlin.
I got back Sunday from the Bahamas checked the weather for memorial day(Monday) and I new I couldn't pass it up. We arrived at flamingo and we were welcomed by slick calm conditions. The day was filled with redfish and snook tailing, pushing and just sitting. I broke out the fly rod and really had to work hard to get the fish to eat as they were being picky with the flies, but the "shrinnow" came through once again. The spinning rod saw most of the action and most of our fish were caught on Bass Assassin Paddle Tails and Gambler Flappin Shad rigged weedless. The fishing is excellent right now, all you have to do is take advantage of it! Give me a call!
