Capt. Jim Hobales
November 28, 2009
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

November got off to a bad start for me, which was just bad timing. I had a rear seal go on my lower unit and my 22 Pathfinder was down for 2 weeks until the new one got here. The mullet run was starting and the beaches were full of bait and predators following.

I borrowed a small Maverick tunnel which was good to fish the shallow flats but for open water runs in the 30 mph we had it was impossible. When the winds calmed down I did manage to have a couple really good days in the shallows.

I fished with Howard Ledder, We started out on some small Tarpon that were not cooperating, eventually we got on some good Snook action up to 10 lbsand a couple Redfish. The Jacks, Trout and Ladyfish also played some to.

I am with Doug Smith today and al he wanted was a Snook, the last time we fished together he and his son both lost monster Snook. The days started out slow but as the tide rose and the water warmed the fish turned on. Doug caught a 25 inch Redfish and follwed it up with 5 Snook up to 30 inches. He also caught Trout which completed his "Backcountry Slam".

Mike and Rodney are part of a 2 boat trip, so we kind of stuck together early. The fish werent biting so we went our seperate ways to see if we coould come up with some thing. We did get into Redfish Mike caught a couple on a "Twitch n Raps" and Rodney had one on a Gulp shrimp. I decided it was time to switch to live shrimp and we put a handful moreRedfish into the boat. We met up with the second boat and sat on the edge of a bar and pitch baits out and the guys traded Snook/Reds for the last hour while trading trash talk. This was plenty of fun but it had to end!

Today I did a bird watching trip. I took Paul and Elizabeth looking for Flamingo's at Flamingo. It didn't take long they got their pictures and were very excited about it.

I went back out with a fellow captain and caught a great Snook and hooked a bunch of Redfish in about 2 hours and then called it a day.

Back in my Pathfinder!

I am fishing deep in the back country today, with Brian and Pete. The bite was slow eaarly on but we managed to catch Snook, Redfish, lots of Trout, Jacks and Ladyfish,Grouper and lost a couple Goliath Groupers. The rods stayed bent most of the afternoon and thats all they wanted.

I am with Paul and his dad John in the back country today, we started out looking for Snook, but only found Trout. The good part is I netted a live well full of Pilchards and turned them into Snook, Redfish. We had 20 or so Snook and a couple 25 inch Redfish. We also had 2 Gag Grouper 21 and 22 inches and lost one that was much bigger. We caught 30 or so Jacks, 25 Trout and a bunch of Ladyfish. We stopped at my Goliath Grouper spot and caught 2 nice ones which just wore these guys out. Paul caught a 30 lb goliath only to be outdone by his dad which caught a 40 plus lb. Goliath. Both guys had enough so we headed to the dock
