Everglades Backcountry Report

Capt. Jason Sullivan
January 23, 2014
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

The water temps have been in the mid 60's, which means fish are definitely in the backcountry. There are still plenty fish out front on the flats and along the coast, but alot of fish have moved into there wintertime haunts. Some days are better than others, but catching a variety of species is not uncommon this time of year. On the colder days we fished with shrimp and jig heads and on some of the warmer days this week, we have had some AWESOME sightfishing opportunities. We had some great shots on laid up redfish and snook in some backcountry ponds this week that seemed very eager to eat anything. The best part about this time of year is swimming along with the redfish and snook, were largemouth bass. Not many places you can catch saltwater species and freshwater species in one day!

The tarpon fishing in Miami is getting into full swing right now. These cold fronts have pushed tarpon down to Miami and with the shrimp run starting, its only going to get better. The tide will be ideal again on the 26th of this month and last for 5 or 6 days. It's great evening trip for you right after work!

Give me a call to experience a great day in the Everglades or a evening of tarpon fishing.
