Everglades backcountry report, 14 October

Capt. Bob LeMay
October 14, 2019
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

We fished four out of the last seven days down in the salt and brackish portions of the Everglades with two days out of Chokoloskee followed by two days out of Flamingo. As expected - pretty good fishing with snook, redfish, and speckled trout everywhere we went. Still lots of bait of every kind along every Gulfside shoreline. I'll let the pics tell the story this week...

His Dad with a great snook - we found lots and lots of both small snook and redfish every day we were on the water...

An early morning speckled pup out of Flamingo- yesterday we caught and released more than forty reds this size along the coast at one place or another... Note the leadhead with Gulp tail - it was all we needed most days...

some were a bit bigger - this was one of two we kept for dinner yesterday...

Dale Ludwig from Virginia helping to hold his son's biggest snook yesterday... 12lbs on the Boga-Grip and 34" long - very carefully released to fight another day...

My only disappointment this past week was that we didn't see the numbers of tarpon that should be around this time of year (we still have a few weeks until that first cold night so we might get some shots yet...). Yesterday we did find some small and medium sized tarpon in one small river - then were shocked when we did hook one - that was easily 100lbs... No it didn't last long but it sure was spectacular - a hundred pound fish in a river that's about 80 feet wide is a handful...

Although the ramp yesterday down at Flamingo was a bit crowded we hardly saw another boat all day long. This is a great time of year to fish the 'glades - lots of bait, lots of big fish, and very few folks out on the water.

Be a hero... take a kid fishing !
