Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

A very solid week of fishing in some not so ideal weather conditions. I fished the dock lights a few nights and spent 2 days in the Glades. We had some strong winds on all of these trips, but we definitely made the best of it and caught some nice fish.
Right now is the TIME for fly fishing around the docklights for snook and tarpon. The mullet are just about gone and the snook and tarpon are looking for smaller baits, which gives the edge to fly fisherman. You can certainly catch them on spin tackle, which we do a lot of, but sometimes it's easier to feed them with a fly. If you have ever thought about picking up a fly rod, this is a great way to start. You don't need to cast far and the wind doesn't really play a factor, because we hide in the lee of the wind. We fished last week in 30 mph winds and still caught plenty of fish!

The redfishing on the coast in the small creeks has been red hot this week as well. We had some big tides with a strong NE wind, which means low and clear water. The tarpon were around very thick and we stuck a few fish that jumped off before we could land them. This is going to be the pattern for the next few months. On those slick and warm days in between fronts, it can be some of the best tarpon fishing all year.
