Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Lately we have been fishing the Everglades backcountry, mostly out of Chokoloskee. The weather has been unfavorable, however the fishing remains pretty strong with plenty of redfish and packs of snook schooled up deep in the backcountry. Whether we threw fly all day or worked areas with jigs, there have been plenty of fish released.
I had the Post brothers from Alaska join me for a day of fishing out of Flamingo. We fished around the islands to stay out of a strong north wind, while bouncing gulps on the bottom. The day produced many reds, snook, trout, and jacks.

The next two trips were out of Chokoloskee and we threw the fly rod on both days. Farrow Allen from Everglades City and Allan Albess from Davie, FL joined me and we experienced some of the best redfishing I've seen in a long time. We spent the morning fishing outer Gulf shorelines and we didn't go 5 minutes without having a shot on a fish. It's good to see the increasing number of redfish.

The next trip was all about snook. Capt. Jim Hale and I stayed deep in the backcountry and found a lot of snooklets that were very willing to eat a fly. The highlight of the day was having an over slot snook devour a well-placed fly. After a few nice headshakes, she chewed through the leader. Nothing better than seeing a big snook eat a fly!

Give me a call to experience a day in the Glades!
