Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

072412

I am down at Flamingo with Shane Hunt and his buddy Neal. I started out by netting some bait. On the first stop we had a couple big Snook, Shane's got him into the bushes but Neal landed a real nice 38 incher. They caught 5 Redfish up to 7 1/2 lbs, the bite was really fast and furiuos for about 30 minutes. We moved on and caught 10 more Snook up to 36 inches. Throw in a couple Shark bites, Ladyfish and Trout to round out a good morning.

I am with Ross Deusch and his wife Mindy today at Flamingo, I netted some Pinfish and Pilchards and put them to work. It didn't take long and we had 3 Redfish between 23 and 27 inches. The next spot produced really well for us! I got to were needed to power pole down, that's when Ross saw rolling Tarpon. I waited a few minutes to see what they were doing eventually they came right back to us. I had a couple big Pinfish out, Mindy got slammed and the fish frayed thru the leaded after a long couple runs. Ross got hit almost simultaneously at first it looked like a small Tarpon, then I noticed it was a big Snook. We landed the Snook and took some photos and got a few more baits out. The next fish was an awesome Tarpon bite but after a couple good jumps and it was gone.

We moved on and found a couple schools of Tarpon which we chased for a while just to get into position to get a cast at them. Ross finally got a chance to get in front of them and got ate. The Tarpon ran, jumped and pulled drag for about 5 minutes until throwing the hook. We set up and I was hoping for more Snook but they were tough today. We did have a few Snook bites which missed the bait, Ross had a big Lemon Shark and the bite just stopped so we called it a day.
