Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

I have been without a computer for a couple weeks so sorry about the lack of updates. I have been fishing mostly with friends and my son and catching a couple fish of my own, we are playing the waiting game now, just waiting for the fall mullet run.

I am part of a 3 boat trip down at Flamingo, I have Aquili, Andre and Carlos from Venezuela. We started out on a point that was holding some big tarpon that were feeding on the mullet schools pouring thru. I had not netted bait yet so we were casting lures, which they preferred. It was frustrating for them because the Tarpon were crushing bait schools and we couldn't get close enough to net them. We moved on while I caught some pinfish, they caught a bunch of Trout jacks and Ladyfish. We moved around a bunch today and caught fish everywhere but no Snook. We caught 25 or so Redfish up to 10 1/2 lbs, some more big Trout, Snappers and at least 20 Sharks up to 150 lbs. They were very happy group of guys.

I am with Adam Laroche and his son Drake at Flamingo. Adam was in town and had the day off, he plays 1st base for the Washington Nationals. This was a totally different trip than normal because we met at 1;30 in the afternoon. I don't generally stay late in the day and I thought it could be interesting. On their first cast Adam got slammed and Drake had something eat a pinfish and going different directions. Adams fish was in a hole and Drakes was running and fine. We got over the hole and Adams fish made a run for it I said I think its a Goliath Grouper, shortly after it came up and showed itself. It was a 18 lb. Goliath, we landed Drakes 3 lb. Jack took a few photos and let everybody go. It was really nice @ 5 PM and no one, we were getting slammed by big Redfish, Sharks, Trout and Jacks. Adam and Drake both caught Redfish after Redfish and Shark after Shark the numbers were just crazy. I said lets go find a Snook! The next spot had some incredible action going on as we pulled up, the bait were getting slammed. We stopped and Adam made a long cast and was instantly hooked up, the fish pulled allot of drag and broke him off. We kept on casting at the blow ups, no Snook but some big Jacks. It was getting late and we had a long run back in before dark and the bugs came out. Adam and Drake were very happy with the afternoon , Adam said he really needed a day like this. That makes my day!

I am fishing the Day on the Bay Tournament with Friend and owner of Biscayne Rods Eddy Carman and Mitch Martinez. We started out quickly Eddy with a 22 inch Redfish and Mitch with a 26 inch Snook. A massive storm hovered over Fl. Bay all morning and really looked bad so we stayed close. I had them casting Twitch n Raps and getting allot of hits from Trout, Jacks, Snappers and eventually Mitch caught a 30 inch Redfish. The storm got closer and we got closer to the marina as did everyone else. The temperature dropped and the rain was close so we headed in. The ramp was crazy with people panicking to leave. The funny part of this was it never rained and everyone left. We sat there for 5 minutes and I said lets go were wasting time. It actually made a comfortable afternoon while waiting for the incoming tide. We upgraded a couple of our species while waiting for the tide to get right. We needed a Tarpon and a Shark to finish up the day and both showed up, we caught a decent 50 inch Lemon Shark. Eddy had a couple shots at the Tarpon but landed his lure just a little to close one time and spooked out the tarpon. It was time to head to weigh ins. It was a good day Mitch got Big Redfish and Top Slam, I didn't turn in paper work which would of won me Top Guide. A bit of a mistake but no big deal! The tournament is for a good cause Sundays BBQ was excellent

I Fished with fellow guide and good friend Capt. Raul Montoro today in Whitewater Bay. All we threw were top waters and jerk baits, this might have been the most Snook I've hooked back there since the big freeze of 2010.

Flamingo Fishing Forecast:

Mullet run probably not to far off.
