Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report
It is very hot and buggy right now but the fish are bitting in full force. The weather has been very calm for the most part and my clients have been having some very good days of fishing out of flamingo.
There have been plenty of snook and baby tarpon in the west side of the park, patrolling shorelines and creeks. The snook bite out in front of flamingo in the shallow flats has been extremely good. We have had days sightfishing and catching over 20 snook on jerkbaits and flies. The redfish have been difficult to find but have managed to catch a few.
Another great fish that has been around in great numbers is the tripletail. We have caught some very nice big ones which have been invited home for dinner. The triple tail are by far one of the best eating fish out there and one of my favorites for sightfishing as well. There has also been plenty of big trout working the mullet muds and grass flats out in front of flamingo. Top water plugs and gulp shrimp on bobbers have been doing the job. If you want to experience some of the most espectacular trout bites, make sure to spend some time casting top water plugs. You'll be glad you did!!
The sharks have also been keeping my clients busy, specially fishing with kids. Kids love to fish for sharks and for a good reason!
Usually underrated, sharks are one of my favorites gamefish to target. Whether is spinning, casting or flyfishing, these fish are always willing to bite and give you a run for your money. I also love fishing for sharks for educational purposes. If you want to learn how to defeat that 100lb plus tarpon on fly or spinning faster the next time, there is no better way to practice than fishing for sharks. We can catch black tips, bulls, lemons, nurses and even tigers during any given day while fishing in the Everglades. Don't be surprised if while shark fishing you happen to be tangled up with a prehistoric monster sawfish!!!
