1/10/09 Flamingo- Chilly with A Hot Bite

Capt. Steven Tejera
January 11, 2009
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Most of the morning's this time of year will start with some chilly weather as you make your way to your favorite honey hole. In the early a.m, it can get cold as the boat is running making for some long sleeve, sweater wearing morning's. These days are the days that working your baits right off the bottom is going to produce your best results. This week we fished mainly with jigs combined with either shrimp, pilchard, pinfish or cut bait but again the key was to keep the bait close to the bottom. That was the key to getting the fish to bite, if we didn't have the baits right off the bottom we were not getting any bites. Working the artificials right off the bottom with a slow retreive also had good results. I like a 1/4 ounce jig head(troll rite) combined with a 3" Berkley Gulp shrimp. We caught snook, redfish, goliath groupers, gag groupers, trout, bluefish, mackeral, snappers, jacks and ladyfish.
As the weather clears after a front has moved through, it makes for some excellent weather to get out and enjoy a day fishing in south florida.
