Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report
Thanks to Ike we experienced high winds and even higher water all week. The Park actually closed the gates for three days in anticipation of extreme weather. Fortunately, we were spared and the gates reopened for what seemed like a record number of boats.
With the winds steadily 15+ mph and the water easily a foot over prediction, most boats headed home early... not us. The guys who earn their keep know how to adapt and adjust as necessary. While it certainly made things tough, we found ways to make it work. Sticking to the lee side of islands and targeting obvious fish holds, such as pot holes, drop-offs and structure, we stayed on fish all day.
Over the last two days in the Park several over slot Snook & Reds, several 10 - 15 lb Tarpon, two large Black Drum and countless Trout to 23" came aboard. The usual Snooklets & rat Reds were out in full force to keep us busy in between the larger fish.
Flamingo Fishing Forecast:
With light winds in the prediction and moonlight tapering, fish activity should increase. I can't imagine more cooperative fish than what we experienced today, but the signs all point in that direction.
Target Species:
Tarpon, Snook, Redfish, Trout & Black Drum
