Flamingo Fishing Report 2/20/13

Capt. Jason Sullivan
February 20, 2013
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Most of my trips this past week have been out of Flamingo fishing the Florida Bay side. The tides had been extremely low the last few days which only gives the advantage to anglers who love to sight fish. Less water on the flats only means less area fish can travel. This time of the year with fronts moving through more frequently, it can be a challenge fishing during those fronts. That being said, the days right before or right after can be some of the best days on the water. The last few trips had us a few miles out in the gulf looking for Mackerel to on the flats chasing fish in extremely shallow water.

I had the pleasure of having on the boat local angler Joe and his girlfriend Whitney, who is a Missouri native. Their knowledge of flats fishing or Everglades fishing came by way of the internet and TV. Joe wanted to catch a tailing redfish and he wanted Whitney to catch her first fish ever. Never catching a redfish before, Joe made short work of the first tailer that popped up. This seemed to be a recurring theme because at one point in the morning there were tails waving as far as you can see. We finished the day with over 50 trout, and Whitney catching her first and biggest of the day.
