Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

We have been definitely getting our share of rain in the Everglades over the last few weeks. You can tell that it has been raining because the fishing has been really good. The baby tarpon action in the backcountry and outfront on the flats has been on fire. These fish are not typically picky and will usually eat anything that you throw in front of them. We have been mostly fly fishing for them, because it is a great way to get that first tarpon on fly or catch a bunch on a light wt rod. On a spinning rod, they will not refuse a jerkbait or a top water plug. We had a good tarpon come up and hit a top water plug 3 feet in the air. Pretty exciting to see that!





The redfishing on the flats has also been really good. Lots of tailers in very shallow water. We should start to see a push of small minnows down the coast and most of the gulf creeks will hold tarpon, redfish, and big snook. This is definitely some of the best fishing of the year!
