Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report
It's mid July and the Flamingo and Florida Bay area is just as it should this time of year, lots of baby tarpon rolling in the channels on the edge of the flats at sunrise and lots of tailing reds sometimes in very nice sized schools, and they've been eating just about everything you can put in front of them, so it's a nice time to get the fly rods out and do some buggy whipping! As far as patterns are concerned, if theres a redfish bug you have confidence in, go with it as they don't seem to be so picky right now! One of my favorites that always seems to do the job is the Redfish slider tide on a #1 or #2 hook! Snook are also out there busting up the bait either on the beaches west of the marina or on the mangrove shorelines of the flats east! After you get your fill of redfish, snook and tarpon, you can also run over to the flats to east of Florida Bay (if you can spare the gas!) to hit up some good bonefish action, hit them at the early incoming tide so you can see those tails! Tan snapping shrimp or tan toads are my flies of choice, and if you must use bait a shrimp or small crab will always produce! Well thats all folks for now, I promise I'll have more pics on my next report, had a slight camera malfunction last trip, yikes! Talk to ya soon.....................Capt. Joe!
