Great day with the Castillo's

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

I am at Flamingo today with Jorge Castillo his young sons Jorge and Ryan and girl friend Arlene, the idea was to keep the kids busy and to catch them some decent fish. They have been fishing before but have never caught lots of fish. We started out catching bait and the big Mangrove Snappers were in the chum. While waiting for the pilchards to show up we started to catch the 14 inch Mangroves. Once we had enough pilchards and we moved on looking for some thing bigger, and boy did we find it. We got into a good Snook bite with Arlene and little Jorge catching the bigger fish. There were also lots of Sharks Bulls, Lemons and Spinners and finally we had a 9 Ft. sawfish which the kids were totally in awe over. I tried to explain how pre historic this fish was, but they're kids and just thought it was cool. We ended the day on an incredible Trout bite, they were tire so we called it a day.

I was supposed to fish the Pace tournament out of Islamorada on Sept. 29 but there was Tropical system Erika out there and it couldn't make up its mind where it was going. Now a days it hard to fool the National Hurricane Service but it did and tournament was cancelled.

Its Friday the 28th and I went to Flamingo to scout a couple spots before I went to Islamorada, It was an interesting morning lots of bait. The full moon had them not so active but I did manage some really good bites and ended up with big Redfish. I was confident I would do ok the next day . On the way down to keys I saw an email that said tournament had been cancelled. We were all sad because the captains meeting is a good time. It was rescheduled to December 12th.

Tropical system Erika was good for us plenty of rain to help with the drought not to mention it will get the Snook bite turned on down at Flamingo

The fishing is about ready to get really good with bait runs on both coast, that's another benefit to tropical systems up the east coast it drives bait down the coast. We all know what happens then. I will keep you posted on this years mullet run, I along with plenty other guys can't wait
