Hot and uncertain weather!

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

080910

I am fishing with my son James and his friend Jesus today at Flamingo. There was a Tropical system developing right off of Cape Sable which made for some tough conditions. There was no bite early and we were actually heading home @ 10 o'clock and then the winds died. We caught a couple Ladyfish and lucky for us the bite turned on. The first bite was good but we didn't see the fish after 8 minutes or so we got back a fraid leader, it could of been a Tarpon or Snook but we will never know! We started pitching out ladyfish chunks and it didn't take long as the tide just started to move in. We had 10 bites and caught 4 or 5 Lemon Sharks all around 50lbs. The both had a blast but by 11:30 we were gone.

This past week the weather was tough with plenty of wind and rain from the tropical system. I am over in Goodland fishing the Backwater series with partners Paul and Mitch. We took off with the other 30 plus boats at 6:30 am and headed south to my home waters of Flamingo at 50 mph for 90 minutes. We got down to our spot and worked hard all day only landing 2 small Redfish. At 1:20 Paul had an idea and we tried it, we only had about 30 minutes once we got there. As we were moving down the shore line we started to spot a few fish . At 1:55 Mitch hooked a great Redfish 26 3/4 inches and I caught a Snook, I was trying to release my Snook so I could cast at the 2nd Redfish swimming with the hooked Redfish. We put it in the live well and were really happy at this point when a school popped up in front of us. Mitch cast in the school and hooked a second 27 inch Redfish. The school was still there but we had to go. We landed it and we had to go it had got really windy and we weren't going to able to run wide open. We had to go we though we were going to have a chance with 13 lbs in the live well.

As we were leaving this area we got stuck, we didn't have time to be stuck either! Mitch and Paul jumped out and pushed us a bit we got out of the area and headed back for the long 55 mile run. When we looked into the live well one fish was belly up we worked on him got it going but kept going belly up. We worked him for 50 miles and kept him alive but as we got to the dock and put him on the measuring board it wasn't doing very good and was eventually disqualified. Our other fish which measured perfect 27 on our board was a hair over on the tour's board which we disputed but lost. We did a good job on a tough day of fishing our team work was excellent and we had a high like no other and then a fall that deflated us. This is not the first or last time something will happen and and we be back next time!

Im back and ready to go there have been plenty of opportunities on the good weather days. Tarpon, Redfish, Trout, Sharks, Cobia, Permit and plenty of fun other fish. Give me a call at 305 333 8149 if you would like to spend a fun filled day on the water.
