Iffy weather producing some big Snook/Redfish

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

I am at Flamingo this morning with George and his grandson Steve. It is forecast to rain but I told them lets see how much we can get in. We left the dock at 7 A.M., Steve is 14 and has the fishing bug really bad. He along with my 2 nephews fish everyday around the homes, all I here how crazy they are about fishing. The first stop was in Snake Bite where Steve hooked his first Redfish. We were battling the oncoming storm from the south and an excessive amount of floating weeds, We managed 2 more Redfish before we had to run to the marina because of winds in excess of 50 mph. We sat around the store for 1 1/2 hours talking about fishing just waiting for a break in the clouds. I looked out and saw it was pure white but no rain, so I told them lets go. We got back out and George caught a small Snook then Steve caught a couple Trout, Jacks and Ladyfish. I ran to a spot out of the wind and started to just fish pot holes when George's reel started to scream! It pulled allot of drag and line and or a while thought it was a Shark, then the big Snook came up and shook her head. This fish was 38 inches and a great fight. The wind was gusting there were more storms coming at us and George said he had enough, of course Steve didn't want to leave.

I am with Yuri and Andre today at Flamingo, they arrive from Russia late last night. They let me know they wouldn't be at the dock until @ 9 am. Yuri is the most intense guy I have ever fished with and now he's into fly fishing. I had got there early and netted some finger mullet knowing Andre has no problem catching fish on bait. I wanted to start out close just to get a fish few in the boat before we made a long run for Tarpon. We got out @ 1015 and it didn't take to long. Andre fishing the mullet caught a few Redfish as Yuri was throwing his fly into all the pockets and holes he saw, after a few missed strike he was hooked up to his first Redfish on fly. For the next hour or so Andre caught allot of Redfish on mullet while Yuri just cast and cast with no luck. By now the wind had picked up @ 20 mph straight out of the west so running west for Tarpon was out of the question.

Our goal today was Tarpon, I said let's put the boat on the backside and fish button wood canal. Between the heat and the west winds we were dealing with there weren't any little Tarpon to be had. Yuri being a wise angler called it a day! He still has the restof the week booked with acouple different guys, Ill see him again on Saturday.

Flamingo Fishing Forecast:

Who knows, the conditions have been tough. That being said I'm catching allot of fish.
