Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

I am with Martin and Paul this morning in S. Biscayne Bay. We are looking for Permit and Tarpon, the down side is it is really overcast with rain and wind. I ran to the Oceanside flats because we had a super low tide, I figured I be able to see on the white bottom. There was really no visibility and as I was moving from one spot to another I pushed a giant school of Tarpon, they spooked and never settled down. The rain was coming at us so I ran over to west side out of the s.w. wind. We were looking for anything at this point and the guys were happy catching Cuda's.
Paul was throwing a "Twitch n Rap" and catching plenty of 5- 10 pound fish while Martin was using live Pilchards and catching his share. Paul made a cast up into a creek and got hit hard the fish was off to the races, I actually had to chase it. The fish finally got close enough for us to see it and it was a big Bonefish! A Bonefish on a 'Twitch n Rap" this is not common and I was excited. We took pictures and released the great catch. We caught anther 20 or so Cuda's and called it a morning.

I am fishing Everglades City area this morning with my old Redfish tour partner Timmy Shabereck, it been 6 years since we fished together. We talked about everything in our lives on the ride over mostly our golf games! We got out and we didn't miss a beat just like when we were were one of the top Redfish teams. We caught a bunch of Reds and Trout and scouted for next weeks tourn. We had a good day and headed home.

I am with my brother Jeff and his his sons Mark (10) and Andrew (6) at Flamingo. I netted a few small finger Mullet and it didn't take long before Andrew was hooked up into a giant Snook. He only weighs about 45 lbs and I had to grab him as the Snook almost pulled hi out of the boat. The snook came unglued at the boat. It was Marks turn and he was hooked up to a big Redfish which came off at the boat as well. I turned around and asked if they had bananas in their cooler, this is the kind of misfortune that happens when bananas are present. They said they know better, we lost another Snook and then Mark finally caught his first Snook.
I ran to the next spot and Andrew finally caught his first Snook after that we caught them all day. I think it may of been the first fish jinx! Andrew caught a small Redfish and some Trout to complete his slam. Mark and my brother caught plenty of fish all day as well. The winds picked up over 20 mph and made it pretty tough so we called it a day.
They were extremely happy, I was impressed at their skill level and knowledge of the laws and limits.

I am over in Marco Island area fishing the Backwater series tournament today we are pre-fishing and tomorrow is tournament day. We scouted several areas for Trout and bait, not really finding either. Im not really confident on tomorrow but have a game plan to follow.

I am fishing with partners Bruce and Mitch and we are in line checking out at 6:30, this tournament is 2 Redfish and 2 Trout.
I idled out of Calusa Marina and at 6:55 Mitch already had our first fish in the boat on a top water plug. He had another hit it but missed it and by 7;30 we had our second fish in the well. The bite was non existent for us after that! I ran to all my (proven) spots and just couldn't get another Redfish. It was time to get our Trout. We caught 2 small Trout and went back to Redfishing. The water was really high and we chunked bait up inside but no bites. This was a long day we did catch all 4 fish but on the smaller side for 9.83 lbs.

I am with Chip and Mike from N Carolina. I have fished with chip for a few years and its always been fun. He comes down for a week in his customized van, it has satellite t,v., refrigerator, a.c., generator and comfort. He also brought his Hell's Bay we left the dock ,caught bait and went and had some fun.
I was hoping to stay out front but the winds were 20 mph so we ran west. Chip broke the ice with a 9 lb. Snook and a small Redfish then Mike had a nice Snook come off. We moved around it seemed like a fish here and a fish there but they were adding up.
I started throwing out some live pilchards, Chip caught 2 more Redfish and a couple Trout, then Mike caught a Redfish I could of used in the tourn.. I rigged a pinfish on Chips rod, he cast to a boil and was instantly hooked to a 45 lb Tarpon. This was fun as the Tarpon ran thru all kinds of trouble, we had him beat. He was on his side but nicked a branch and was gone, good release anyway
I rigged a Ladyfish on a bigger rod and pitched it out, we had a 90 lb Tarpon pick it up. The first jump was spectacular, Chip picked up the rod and put the screws to the Tarpon. We had it next to the boat in 8 minutes to give chip his "Super Backcounty Slam". We ended up the day with a few more Redfish up to 8 lbs, a couple Sharks and a big Snook the got Mike into the trees
