Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

091310

I am part of a big group fishing the Kohler company today, I have Scott and Chris on board. We headed over to Flamingo from Islamorada and got into some really big fish busting mullet schools right off the bat. The fish were up on the flat and we had to wait a bit for them to get to us. In the mean time the were some big explosions in front of us, I had some top water plugs rigged and we cast into the foaming white water. The guys doubled up on big Jack Crevalles for the next 2 hours and loving it. We moved back to our original spot and had big Sharks come up on top water lures and also on eat our bait. We sat and watched a feeding frenzy Redfish, Snook, Tarpon but we couldn't get past the Jacks. There were just to many off them. We bounced around looking for Tarpon and finding a few but no bites.

I am with Scott and Chris again, I wanted change up a little today so I was looking for Ladyfish for bait. I went to a good spot and caught one Ladyfish real quick and then the big Trout started to bite. We caught about 30 Trout,a 20 inch Mangrove Snapper and more Ladyfish. I went back to the same spot as the day before hoping to get a chunk of ladyfish in front of the moving mullet schools and let the scavengers find it. There was a bit of a difference today, the wind was blowing 20 mph and the fish just weren't as thick up there. I hit a lot of areas that are prime spots but found nothing. They asked to go back for more Trout because they wanted to take some home. We set up and caught some big Mangroves and Trout then headed home.

The Flamingo area is just not the same since the winter freeze. The Redfish are in great supply but Snook and small Tarpon are tough to find day in day out. Most of my success this year has been running north of the Shark River area and even then it not the same. Hopefully the Snook have a good spawning year and replenish. It still a great day on the water but I now understand good good we had it. It is also hot and that effects them as well we will see next month if thing turn around a little.
