Mullet run!

Capt. Jim Hobales

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Its been a while since we have seen this much bait in the Miami area but its here. I took advantage on Friday while fishing with my son, I loaded up the live well and starting throwing baits out everywhere I fished. I also fished pods of mullet around the islands and picked up a bunch of Jacks, Cuda's and a couple Snappers. I also chummed pretty hard with Pilchards just off the inter coastal looking for Tarpon. No Tarpon but lots of Jacks up to 10 lbs., we caught them until my son was tired and wanted something else. We had a monster Snook (25 lbs) come up and try to eat a small Jack until it saw the boat and swam off, a cast or two later I hooked a 9 lb Snook off a point. We put allot of fish in the boat but we were looking for Tarpon, it was a little sloppy so I didn't run the beach. I did fish Haulover chumming with everything I had but no bites water was very clean. I stopped at one last spot before leaving on a clear bank, we got a shot at a cruising Tarpon which spooked out on us. It was 11;30 and we already had a great day so we headed home.

I am fishing with a friend of mines customers today they are here from China and never fished before. I am with Ming, Lisa, Tommy and Ricardo I stayed with the same game plan as yesterday. It didn't take long I had the Jacks boilng on the surface and for the next hour or so we caught 3 at a time, Lisa just took pictures. They put the rods down and said they were tired so we moved on. I went to another spot and we had Trout, Ladyfish, Cuda's, Snappers and more Jacks. The asked about swimming so went to the Haulover sandbar until they were hungry and we headed in. They really enjoyed the sightseeing part taking pictures of everything.

The mullet run is on I will be out this week finding the best area to fish them. This comes at a great time because with the Government closures they have shut us out of Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park. The mullet run is one of the most fun fisheries while it last and you got to try it. Tarpon, Snook, Big Jacks, Pompanos Blue fish and Sharks will keep us busy. If you never tried the mullet run give me a call at 305 333 8149, its blast.
