Mullet run is on!

Capt. Jim Hobales

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

090614

I am getting ready for a couple tournaments that are coming up at the end of September, I called my buddy Mitch which is also one of my anglers to lets just go fishing. We went to Flamingo and worked an area we had both fished in the last couple weeks for Tarpon. We noticed a few mullet schools getting blown up by big fish and we continued casting our lures at them catching Redfish, Jacks, Trout and Ladyfish. The Tarpon and Snook that we thought were the predators wouldn't hit our lures, We sat and waited and on the incoming tide the finger Mullet schools started to pour in. I threw the cast net on them and loaded up the net was heavy but that's because I netted a Snook also. I told to Mitch they just want these! I netted about 40 finger Mullet and we used every last one catching Redfish, Snook,1 big Mangrove Snapper and a couple big Shark bites. I cant sit, watch and wait with customers when nothing is happening but today it paid off.

The Mullet run has started on both coast although we still need a big N.E. wind to blow them in here in Miami to get the full effect, it will happen soon. This is one of the most visual types of fishing we do the Mullet schools have all kinds of predators in them including Tarpon, Snook, Jacks, and Sharks. I will keep you informed !
