Mullet run kick off!

Capt. Jim Hobales
September 13, 2011
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

091011
I am fun fishing today out of Haulover Marina with my son James and friends Jesus and Bruce. We started out in the inlet chasing some Mullet schools looking for Tarpon and eventually moved into the inter coastal. There are plenty of Mullet getting busted up by Jacks, Ladyfish, Cuda's and Trout which we caught in good numbers. We hooked a handful Tarpon on lures and a couple on live Mullet, we didn't land any but the kids had a great time. There's allot going on right now just find the mullet schools!

I am out of Haulover with friend and outdoor writer Jan Maizler this morning looking to do a little catching and photography of the catch. We started out casting at Tarpon which were busting up the mullet schools but not hitting our lures. I netted some bait and that didn't really do much for us, we did catch some Cuda's, Trout and Snappers. The tide was really high and the fish seemed to have eaten last night during the full moon. I had a couple pinfish in the well that's when a big Tarpon cruised by the boat. I got the bait into position as the Tarpon passed by and that's all it took! It ate the pinfish and we got 3 big jumps out of the 150 monster and then it was gone. We had one other mullet get hit by a Tarpon, but missed it.
There are some really decent Mangrove Snappers in the bay right now between them and the Trout you can catch dinner.

Flamingo Fishing Forecast:

pay attention in the bay for the mullet run, plenty of predators will follow.

Target Species:

Tarpon- Snook-
