Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

030708
This morning I am fishing Government Cut with Sam,Travis and Chini (I don't know if that's spelled right) but she is the one that caught all the fish. The winds were south at 25 mph but we had some protection from Fisher Island. We fished the inside of the cut and it paid off, Chini's rod doubled over and the fight was on for about 10 minutes. The fish finally came to the surface and it was a 15 lb Goliath Grouper! There was a sail boat race and the Cut was really busy plus the winds so we spent the rest of the morning in the bay Trout fishing.

Bob and Harry are here for the next 3 days and this is not the way the wanted to start out. The tide switched and the winds seemed to lay down a bit which let us fish the tip of the inlet on the incoming tide. This scenario can produce a couple bites but only a couple Scorpion fish today. think we managed a small Mangrove and a couple grunts but there was very little action. We made our way in to the bay and fished for Trout until we called it a day. Tomorrow we are fishing at Flamingo and we catch fish there.

A cold front passed thru during the night so we had a NW wind this morning, it was breezy early but nothing compared to later on. We started out on a protected shoreline loaded with Tarpon and a falling tide. This should of produced some Tarpon bites, Bob caught a decent Mangrove Snapper which won him the first fish bet (poor Harry he got an ear full). The bets are $5 for first, biggest, and most fish. The tide was getting lower and it was time to move. what we didn't realize was how windy it had become while behind the island. The winds had picked up over 25 mph and now spots were at a premium, there weren't many other people out there. I had these die hard's from New Jersey which wouldn't quit, the winds continue to build and were wrapping around the islands. with no protection. The winds were so strong my power pole broke free and I do mean it broke, so now I don't have a power pole. The winds have picked up more up to 40 mph and rest of the day was trying to stay dry when we moved around. I was ready to go but Bob and Harry won't quit. I got up on the camp ground shore line and Bob caught a Snook, Harry is getting a ear full again, now he owes bob for first, most and biggest. Harry did have a Snook bite which he missed but took it in stride. We finally called it a day at 3 PM, this was brutal!

The winds are down some today and we have to catch some fish! Ill get to the point today was tough all day until 4 PM and then "hell broke loose". I ran to a little run off and the mullet were just starting to come through, Harry had a nice boil and hit on the Twitch n Rap and then Snook another smashed it. This was the case for an hour until Harry finally caught his 32 inch Snook! I like fishing with Bob and Harry, the fun never stops. This guys earned every fish they caught this weekend!

Joe,Tom and Gene wanted Tarpon so we fished Government Cut this afternoon. We got out about 530 PM and they were everywhere. The tide was just about to switch and that's when the bite should start, theoretically! We had 2 knock downs but now fish , we tried jigging them in the inlet plugs and Gulp Shrimp but here weren't eating. There was only 1 Tarpon caught by all the boats tonight.

Flamingo Fishing Forecast:

has to get better
