Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report
Fishing was good in the backcountry out of Flamingo this past weekend! Saw lots of nice sized snook tucked back up in the mangroves although most of the ones we caught were only 20 inches, still lots o fun on the flyrod! I hit up some of my old haunts back in Hells Bay and found quite a few Redfish tailing up on the red mud flats just like they would out front, it's quite a sight to see them tail in that change of scenery!
And their color turns a very nice shade of red in the back making them live up to their name. As far as backcountry flies are concerned, bunny strip seaducers work well on just about everything back there, Bendbacks, Prince of Tides and glades minnows are also effective. We had planned on fishing a bit longer and then that front decided to run through us way ahead of schedule which was quite a bummer, but a least we caught some nice fish! In all, it's a great time to get out to the backcountry and take advantage of some great winter time fishing and nice change of pace with blue bird skies, cooler temps and less bugs making for a nicer less itchy day out in Glades! See ya at the ramp, catch em up.............Capt. Joe!
