Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Jeff and Heather just moved here from Ohio and are very hard core anglers, they wanted to catch but also to experience someplace a bit different. We got out early and headed to Whitewater Bay to look for Tarpon, they were not there today. I did not want to waste time because I knew I could find them in other areas. We decided to catch some fish first then run around and look for Tarpon. It didn't take long we pulled up to a point and caught a small Snook and a bunch of Trout, we continued this for the next 3 hours. Snook Trout Ladyfish, Jacks, Snappers. We pulled up on a flat loaded with small minnows Jeff had 2 big blow ups on his top water plug but the fish just didn't stay hooked up. The next spot had plenty of Tarpon but none interested in eating our lures. Jeff caught a nice Gag Grouper up in Shark River by trolling a plug thru the rocky bottom. The day was beautiful and I asked them if they wanted to try for a Cobia and Triple Tails, they had never even heard of them before and said it sounds like fun, lets go. We ran the crab pots and stopped at all the markers in the Gulf of Mexico looking for a Cobia. The Cobia were scarce but Jeff hooked and caught a really nice Triple Tail and had a bunch of other shots at fish that seemed like they had been worked. This is true sight fishing and exact cast are a must, Jeff and Heather loved it!

Today group is Beatrice her son Jason and his girl fiend Daniel, they wanted to catch Trout so we did! The bank at Middle Grounds were exposed so all the fish have to get on the edge, making them easy to catch.

We got up on the flat edge and catch Gulp Shrimp and Rapala Twitchin Rap. Jason was catching 20 inch Trout on every cast as everyone else was catching the smaller fish. We moved around the flat and caught a little bit of everything, Bluefish, Jacks, Ladyfish and plenty more Trout. After catching about a hundred Trout we had some Pilchards a friend of mine gave me earlier in the day, I said lets go try something else. I ran to a flat with some potholes, we cast the Pilchards out and it didn't take long. Jason had a big boil behind his plug; then Daniel hooked a 26 in Snook, not long after Beatrice caught a 5 lb Jack; what a great way to end a fun day!

Steve has his 2 sons Adam and Mitch out today for some outdoor fun and fish catching. The day started out with a quick 30 inch Tarpon and 16 inch Redfish but the tide was falling and I had to get off the flat, We ran to East Cape Canal and put some baits out. It started out slow but before you know it Steve caught a Mackerel then a bait got hit by a Snook and then a big rod doubles over and we are off to the races. Mitch is on the big rod and the fish is peeling off line as I try to get the anchor free and catch up to the fish. Mitch did a good job fighting and landing a 6 foot Lemon Shark, we got him boat side took some photos and let it go. The tide was right for Middle Grounds and Steve wanted the kids to stay busy so off we went. We caught a lot of Trout, Jacks and Ladyfish so I finally said lets try something different. We ran to a deeper area off a flat edge and put out some baits, it didn't take long 15 minutes into it a Snook ate our bait. The Snook hit it so hard it knocked it in to the air and missed it. It was long after another bait got hit and whatever it was left a huge boil. the bite slowed here so we ran to Snake Bite channel to end the day with some 5 lb Jacks, Trout Ladyfish and some very large Catfish. The day was a success and we headed to the ramp.
