South Florida Report - Flamingo, Biscayne Bay & Miami

Capt. Jim Hobales

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

112807

Today I am fishing with my buddy Paul in Whitewater Bay for Tarpon, the goal is to hook one of the early season fish. The fish were thick enough but we really never got close enough. We decided let's go catch some Snook and we can come back later. The rest of the morning was non stop with action; we caught Redfish, Snook, Goliath Grouper, Snappers and Jacks. Paul caught a real nice 32" Snook that was fat. I told Paul let's go play with the big Snappers, he was amazed at what how they fight in the shallow water, these snappers range from 14-16 "s. All we had to do was get the Gulp Shrimp inside a small tree and hold on. We finished off the day casting at Tarpon and although we were closer to them now still no bites. There is a lot off enjoyment watching 100 lb Tarpon free jumping, these fish will start eating real soon.

I am with Mitch from Biscayne Rods today, the finest rods on the market! I promised him a bunch of fish, I also told him we would fish an area that I fish all to myself. It didn't take long when we saw a couple Snook busting up baits, but we got no bites. We moved around a little and finally got into the Redfish, we ended up with about 10 or so. The Snook weren't far behind, even though this wasn't the bite I expected. We ended up with 6 Snook but the tides were not in our favor, that's why the bite was slow. We hit a few more spot and called it a day.
