Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Flamingo - June 19, 2005 "Father's Day"
I had the pleasure of treating my Dad to a Father's Day Flamingo trip... we had a blast! It was flat calm first thing and he took advantage... Snook, Trout & Redfish before 9:00 am.
We fished Whitewater Bay and then went North to Lostman's where we sat out a rain storm. Unfortunately we diddn't make it down to the Cape (where all the big fish are) due to some large systems that were slamming the coast from the West. So, I didn't get to put him on the large fish I wanted, but we caught a bunch anyway.
We ended up with over a dozen Snook, a few Reds and a couple dozen Trout in about four and a half hours of fishing.
Happy Father's Day and congrats on another Slam Dad!

Today I fished with long time clients Ken and Glenn, local big-wigs in the contracting community and today was all about luck. Before heading North, we stopped and caught about two dozen Trout... dinner and 1/3 of the Slam. As we got to my bait spot North, we witnessed the Cape and probably most of Flamingo get engulfed by a huge storm... I'm glad we went North (all luck). While waiting for the storm to move, we attempted to find bait... with no luck. The only problem was the storm was just sitting on the Cape and pounding all of the poor guys that put in on the outside... so I decided to fish a few spots up that way and it paid off (again, all luck). We caught 11 or 12 Snook and 6 Redfish before the storm finally moved off the Cape.
Congrats to Ken and Glen, on their Back Country Slams... without bait!

Today I had a two boat charter scheduled for some boys from Florida Sportsman Magazine and was fairly upset that the weather was not cooperating... SE 20 - 25 knots, 80% chance of thunderstorms and ridiculous wave predictions for the Gulf. I thought the weather would deter these guys for sure... little did I know how die-hard they were. We fished!... we fly-fished!... and we caught fish!... well, we didn't catch tons of fish, but given the conditions, I'll take a few Snook with two slobs added into the mix. The largest fish would measure 12.5 lbs on the boga and her sister would be just shy of that weight... caught on an Exude Shrimp. This was the first time they fished with Exude and were impressed to say the least.
