Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Flamingo Fiesta
You might think the storms, bugs & heat would scare anglers away from Everglades National Park... not a chance. This time of year very little time is actually spent "fishing," and more time is spent "catching." Every species is plentiful and willing to take artificials, flies & an assortment of baits... in just about every type of water the Park has to offer.
Saturday I fished with "First-timers," who caught fish in fresh water, shallow grass flats, river mouths and muddy saltwater... they couldn't believe the diversity of habitat. The Summer fishing in Flamingo couldn't get any better.
Back Country Slam Report
Although the season for harvesting Snook is closed, the bite has not. There have been reports of 30+ Snook a day... and we're not talking babies. The majority of Snook are medium slot to over slot, with a few bruisers mixed in. Over the last month my clients have caught and released nearly 200 Snook. The biggest was a 37 incher caught by Don Bailey at the end of May.
We're finding them in good numbers off the beaches, in river mouths and in larger channels. Find the bait, find a good point on and hold on tight.
This year the Redfish have cooperated like no other. We've caught them all over and on many different types of bait/lures. I'm seeing more and larger fish these days... what a blessing. The harvesting restrictions are paying large dividends to anyone interested.
Right now the Redfish are thick up on the flats... and in large schools to boot. If you have the means of poling on lower tides, you should be rewarded with double digit Redfish days.
Baby Tarpon have been invading the Snook, Redfish and Trout holes for the past couple months. We caught a few 15 lbers last week in nearly fresh water and then caught two more in saltwater near the Cape. I've spotted some larger fish on the West Coast, laying up near structure in deeper water. I've also witnessed a few larger fish caught in the East Cape Canal.
It's hard to beat the action of a school of feeding Tarpon...
