The fishing in Flamingo has been hot, but not quite as hot as the water temperature and afternoon sun. I've seen water temperatures in the mid 90's!... any hotter and the fish might be cooked before they make it to the boat.
When the water & sun get too hot, the fish are moving into areas with better tidal flow and shade. Yesterday, I fished with first time client Neil Sherfer, who experienced this behavior first hand. He would put 4 or 5 casts just outside the shade of a mangrove with no strikes, yet as soon as his bait hit a shaded area... Thump, he's on.
My last few trips yielded large numbers of Snook, Redfish & Trout on live pilchards, Exude & DOA plastics. When the heat is up, we turn to skipping those plastics into shaded mangrove shorelines and when the water is moving, we drop live pilchards on River mouth ledges.
