Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

081514

I am fishing Flamingo today with Jim Resnick, his son Steve and his young sons Jarrod and Coby, we started out catching some bait and then put the bait to work. The bite was quick considering we are coming off "super full moon" and have S.W. wind, two conditions that can make for tough fishing. The first spot we went to was active, the first couple fish came undone. then Jarrod took over and put 2 Snook and a big Redfish in the boat. The bite was good for a while every pinfish we cast up into the trees was eaten. The next spot produced a couple of over slot Redfish one not by much and I had to explain the laws about measuring and releasing the big or small fish. There were Jacks, Ladyfish, Snappers, Trout and of course Catfish and Sharks. The day was respectable for the conditions we had. Oh yeah, Jarrod also hooked a 150 lbs. Tarpon that pulled a lot of line but eventually jumped off.

I am with a good friend today Raul and his 9 yr. old son Raul and we are fishing Flamingo. I netted some Mullet right out of the marina and went to work, we were casting lures and were looking for some big fish. Raul had some big boils behind his jerk bait but they all were short strikes. I decided to use the mullet and it took all of 3 minutes before the rods started to bend. Little Raul had a fish pulling drag and he was ecstatic. He is used to catching Bass in his lake so the 40 lb. Lemon shark was a blast for him after landing and taking some pictures we let it go. We did the 20 times and with some other great bites including a 32 inch Redfish that big Raul caught, the next spot produced a bunch of Snook up to 5 lbs.. We took a ride and headed out to the Gulf of Mexico, Raul hadn't been the in 15 years, since last time we actually got to fish together. It was back then we were both active members in the Miami Sport Fishing Club and fished together a lot, now he is passing it on to his son. The Gulf was loaded with Jacks chasing small baits and we wore him out enough that he dozed off on the ride to the next spot. I wanted to try one more spot before heading in and it paid off with 20 Trout, Jacks and Snappers. It was hot and we caught a ton of fish today so we headed in!

I will be down in Islamorada this weekend fishing the Pace Spartan's Tournament, fishing has been good give me a callat 305 333 8149 if you would like to give it a try.
