Flamingo - Everglades National Park

Capt. Ariel Cabrera

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Snook Season Open!

Fishing has been increasingly dependable on “iffy” weather but the days we have been out- it’s been all about ‘catchin’. Fishing inside Whitewater has had reliable action on snook and snapper and outside has been the same but with a few more species like trout and tripletail.

The best days have been spent with scientist Valerie Whalon from Phillie, Russ, “Ma“, and partner. Russ happened to catch a 7 pound Flamingo Permit. Tony Pope brought along daughter, Helen and boyfriend who stars in Young and The Restless. Helen housed both men with a 20# Flamingo PERMIT. What an exciting day it was. Joe Digrazi landed 3 tarpon on lures. The biggest was taken on a skitter walk following a storm plus three snook on skimmer jigs. Albert Perdomo and son caught the Flamingo slam with reds, trout, and two snook. They also took home a bunch of mangroves to 15” for dinner. Micheal Fleming and Walter landed 6 tarpon, 3 snook, and a red plus an assortment of snapper and jacks in 4.5 hours before finishing that split day later with Karen Batson and Andrew. They took home a seven pound tripletail and the boy landed a small tarpon on a skimmer before dusk. And lastly, Robert Volpe and nephew from mass. Put 8 tarpon in the air, landed two small reds, and even had shots at tripletail. These tails were tough to fool. Next time. These reports are based on the past month.

Fishing is great!!!! Few boats are out but be sure to wear your long pants and sleeves. Although the hurricanes have slowed business considerably I’m confident that things will bounce back soon.

Florida Sportsman Magazine published my article, Phone Home, Sept. pg 72. Be sure to check it out as it is quite informative even to the most discriminative boater.

I will be making an appearance at South Dade Anglers Fishing Club Sept. 14, Tues. and will discuss backcountry camping in Everglades National Park.

Please don’t forget to look at my new website www.captainariel.com as I have added a gallery, testimonial, sponsors page, and more.

Plus all full day trips with me offer a No-fish No-pay!!!! You can’t go wrong!!!!! Capt. Ariel

There are 2 Biscayne custom rods 6 1/12 ft available for sale. Please call or e-mail
