Flamingo - Everglades National Park

Capt. Ariel Cabrera
December 6, 2004
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

We have been blessed to have decent weather and a fairly strong bite inshore. Flamingo catches have had a lot of drum , both red and black. Excellent gag grouper action with some mixed in mackerel and pompano. Sheepshead fishing is also improving. For snook we have had to work a little harder. And tarpon - I don’t know anyone with an honest report. It’s not spring or summer tarpon time anyways.

Nicole Dennisson caught a 24” redfish, black drum, and a 24” mackerel. It was a good day. James Bennet and Bob Halsell teamed up to land five reds and take home a 24” plus a 25”. On this day we also caught some drum.

Out of Chokoloskee I chartered from Everglades City and we boated 8 macks and another 8 cutoffs near. One red, one flounder, a small gag, and 2 trout!!! The next day we fished freshwater boating 15 largemouth. I had Tom and Dick Schettler aboard both trips.

Bob Halsel brought Dave Flowers to score 10 reds, 5 gags, 2 macks, and fight a runaway snook in Whitewater Bay. We also released over 9 trout. I think they’ll be back for more.

Fishing should remain good to excellent, don’t get discouraged if you can’t find snook. Clean water, bait, and structure are a few pointers.

PS

My Mercury 60 HP 4-stroke EFI is for sale due to the fact that I am joining the YAMAHA PRO STAFF. PLease drop me a line and tell me if you or anyone you know is interested.
