Flamingo - Everglades National Park

Capt. Ariel Cabrera
December 20, 2005
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

WHITEWATER BAY RAMP OPEN

FISHING THE FLAMINGO BACKCOUNTRY IS NOW POSSIBLE! With the she-dog lure we were able to boat seven snook, 2 redfish, and over a dozen trout. Jesse Langer also caught a snook on fly and 5 more trout. The backcountry has been hot even for snapper plus some tarpon have been rolling. Manny Dezarrage and son also cuaght trout, sheepshead, and ladyfish.

In the Biscayne area We have had success on mutton and mangrove as Dr. Walter Bradley and son’s proved. Mike Gorman and son did well in the south bay with snapper and other varieties of fish. Joe Digraziano also took some fish in the Largo backwaters. This day, we also sighted some reds and feeding snook.

If you are interested in hiring a MOTHERSHIP to be able to fish the Everglades backcountry for extended time, please inform. Camping is only allowed at some sites accessible from Everglades City right now. This vessel will sleep 4 comfortably and is capable of towing 2 skiffs.

The only bad news is that the Florida Bay ramp is still closed but those that request to fish it can still go there from the Keys. I will gladly take you there.

Please call 305-242-7700 for the latest information on the park status.

Don't delay fishing is great. Snook and redfish are hitting flies and topwater, it doesn't get any better. E-mail me for photos of the 26" redfish just taken on the SHE-DOG.
