Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Great Solid, Summer Fishing is Here!
Summer has gotten off to a fabulous start with great bites. A recent Flamingo trip with Pete Guerrero landed us two tarpon, redfish and many more strikes. We tried sightfishing reds but it was overcast all day however, the tarpon action was on entirely, all day. Davis Solomon, father and son team caught over 15 largemouth, gar and other Everglades species near the Big Cypress one morning. Out of Chokoloskee, the Short party caught Goliath grouper, reds, snook, jacks, and more. The others in the group fished with friend Capt. Ray Culver and Capt. Jerry. Matt Isle fished Flamingo with me and caught redfish, snook, tarpon, and more. Other patron and friends include Frank La Cort, Cheryl and Norman Gold, Susan Goda, Davis Swarxt, and Jules Lasser.
GET UP EARLY. Best bet is to get the earliest start as possible. This will always increase your odds and also help beat the heat. A lot of these fish are taken on LURES, LURES, and LURES! The tarpon are taking jerkbaits, topwater, and plugs. I often skip the baitshop trip during the summer.
If you are thinking about getting out, this is honestly a GREAT time of year because the fishing is SO good. Fly fisherman will be in heaven. The tarpon and redfish are in! Few people will be in the backcountry as our snowbird season is dwindling but now we get into hardcore fishing like flats and big snook and tarpon, permit
FLYS FOR SALE: I am tying fishing flies for redfish, snook, and tarpon. If you are interested, please email or call. These are custom handtied flies and epoxy coated for long-lasting durability. They catch fish…time and time again. These will make a great gift or lure in your tackle box.
TAKE A KID FISHING SPECIAL: Please see my online pages.
Buying a boat? The days I don’t fish I am often surveying boats or writing about fishing or boating. If you don’t see a report for some time don’t be discouraged to get out. If you are looking into a boat, let's talk. Remember anytime you can go fishing is a good time.
