Flamingo - Everglades National Park

Capt. Ariel Cabrera

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

HOT SUMMER FISHING

No complaints on the bite from anglers this time of year. There is a super bite on snapper, snook, and a variety of species around Flamingo in the Everglades. Snook continue to respond well to lures like Gulp Shrimp and swimming jigs. Snapper are easier to catch on natural baits like pinfish steaks and shrimp however; those that have been using skimmer jigs and topwater baits are getting similar results. Just take the time to work the lures and you will see the blast.

For those shallow redfish try jerkbaits and gold spoons. If they are not in the feeding move you should move to deeper, murkier water. Be prepared to move if you don’t find the results expected. That’s just the way it is and be prepared for the heat, storms, and bugs too.

In Biscayne Bay we have been doing well with tarpon early in the morning and then later finding lots of barracuda. The weather has been calm so it has been fun to sightfish. We have also seen lots of permit. The bonefish, on those hot days hotter than 89 degrees seem to be found somewhere in cooler water.

Some of the adventurous anglers that have fished with me include Jose Aunon, Alex and Chad Gomes, Mark and Sam Engel and son, Raul Rodriguez and son, and Matias Dorta and son. We had some seriously good fishing on those charters.

FLYS FOR SALE: I am tying fishing flies for redfish, snook, and tarpon. If you are interested, please email or call. These are custom handtied flies and epoxy coated for long-lasting durability. They catch fish…time and time again. These will make a great gift or lure in your tackle box.

TAKE A KID FISHING SPECIAL: Please see my online pages.

Buying a boat? The days I don’t fish I am often surveying boats or writing about fishing or boating. If you are looking into a boat, let's talk. Remember anytime you can go fishing is a good time.
