Everglades National Park - Flamingo

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

The big story this past week has been the spring tarpon fishing at Flamingo. We haven't stuck any over 100 this week, but some each day up to that mark on lures and flies. Ron Weber and his son Michael were down from Kansas City for two days. They got a real workout. One fish of about 80lbs took us a quarter mile up a river on 12# gear with 17yr. old Mike hanging on for dear life. The next day he stuck one of about 100 on a bit heavier gear until the fish ripped one of the hooks right off of the plug... His dad managed to jump two on fly in the same area. Absent any drastic weather change the tarpon fishing should get better every day for the next six weeks.

When we weren't chasing big fish we found fair numbers of small redfish in Whitewater Bay along with growing schools of finger mullet. Our best snook of the week was one of about 12lbs caught by Ron Wohlwend. Although the water conditions are still a bit murky, if you find the schools of mullet there should be fish nearby.
