Everglades National Park - Flamingo

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

This week the tarpon did most of the releasing, but it's all been fun and sometimes just a little too close for comfort. We've had big tarpon eating almost every day this week. My anglers have stuck them on bait, flies, and lures up to and over 100lbs in fairly close quarters spots. The last one today was a very big fish that ate a new lure right at the boat then almost climbed in the boat with us before tearing up the river. We'll be after them again tomorrow.

With all the excitement of tarpon fishing this time of year, the best catch this week was made by Steve Camm, a visitor from England. On Saturday he hooked, fought to the boat, and released a snook that measured 42" and weighed 21-22lbs on the Boga-grip. The fish was caught near one of the many outside points along the Gulf coast. It was definitely the highlight of the trip!

I don't know what if any effect the fishing tournament this weekend will have on the areas that I normally fish, but imagine there will be lots of anglers looking to win it all. Let's hope that a little courtesy will be shown by those on the water. If you can give other boats a little room and try not to run close to them it will be a little easier for all of us.
