Everglades National Park - Flamingo

Capt. Bob LeMay

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Thursday and Friday last week the fish were biting despite all of the rain. Ted O'Hara, from upstate New York, got a backcountry slam with snook, trout and a redfish. His partner, Bill Hanson, lost a nice redfish at the boat to a shark. When asked what kind of shark all I could say at the time was "a large and hungry one"....

The next day Dr. Randy Wong from Washington D.C. and his wife Annie caught and released large numbers of snapper and small grouper in a nearby river mouth. The high point on Friday was a 60lb jewfish caught and very carefully released after quite a struggle. It's nice to have a fish in the boat that is hard to lift for that photo!

Biscayne Bay has turned on at night with good numbers of small tarpon under and around bridges. Last night Rick Klotz hooked 8 in less than 4 hours, bringing half of them to the boat. The rest released themselves in spectacular fashion. We never saw another fisherman last night and the tides should keep the fish feeding heavily the rest of the week. I'm looking forward to it.
