Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week its been giant tarpon every day we've fished for them along the coast north and south of the Shark River area. Our largest of the week was about 100lbs on 15# spinning gear. At the boat the fish had the audacity to smack the guide in the face with his tail... Fortunately the fish hit the side of the boat at the same time or someone else would be writing this report... During the week we also had bites from fish that were a lot bigger but missed our hook-ups. It looks like all the tarpon we saw were feeding heavily after returning from that early summer spawn.
The outstanding catch of the week was made by Brad Barker, with the Sportsmen of Broward fishing club. He started the day with that 100lb tarpon, then went on to complete a grand slam releasing snook, a small redfish, and lots of trout along with a spanish mackeral. It's that time of year! Every day we have white bait for fishing or live chumming and the predators are always close by.
As long as the wind stays from the east the Gulf coast should be great this weekend. Every day we've been without mosquitoes once away from the boat ramp which has been an added bonus. As long as we stay away from the bushes it's that way all day. Most days the afternoons are a bit tough with lightning filled rain a fair possibility but a little caution is all that's needed.
Tight Lines
