Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

The past two weeks have been busy ones with lots of time on the water in rapidly changing conditions. Several cold fronts in rapid succession have the fish fnally moving inside in good numbers. It's also meant some tough fishing conditions and more than a few bad weather days...

We're finding fish now in all of the usual winter spots including all the way up into freshwater areas. At one spot we found a half dozen laid up snook in crystal clear water. The little ones were over 10lbs... At the same corner we found large reds cruising along and willing to eat whatever came their way. This time of year we do a lot of sight-fishing in shallow coves and back bays in Whitewater and Oyster Bays. The water is shallow and clear. The fish are wary but approachable with a careful stalk. This is not the place for electric trolling motors...

Water temps are changing a lot from day to day as the cold fronts move through with early morning temperatures ranging from 60 to 64 degrees each day. By the late afternoon temps will be up 4 to 5 degrees from whatever the early morning was. No need now to be on the water at dawn....

The giant tarpon wont't show up in Whitewater for another few weeks. Last year they were in before Christmas, but it varies from year to year. Locally in Biscayne Bay the night fishing for baby tarpon should get started any day now. We'll be after them at the end of this week and should have some solid info by next week's report.
