Everglades National Park - Flamingo

Capt. Bob LeMay

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week we gave Flamingo a rest and fished a couple of night charters for baby tarpon in Biscayne Bay. A scouting trip on Thursday night found good numbers of fish in the 30 to 40lb range on one bridge but nothing on the second bridge. Although the fish were definitely in feeding mode no signs of any shrimp on the tide.... On Friday night with a very noticeable cold front passing through all of the fish disappeared. Typical tarpon behavior... On Saturday night with a warming trend and water temps in the 68 to 71 degree range we found a few fish. My anglers stuck 4 small tarpon, boating and releasing one on bait. The other three fish released themselves after a fair amount of jumping and carrying on. We also caught and released jacks, ladyfish, and nice sized mangrove snapper.

This time of year the fish are there every night around bridges, fenders and small docklights. The key to hot action as always is the shrimp moving on the tide. Although no shrimp were evident during the nights we fished we still found feeding fish. When the shrimp move it should get hot!
