Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

This past week the wind howled, but fortunately from the right direction...
We fished four days and found good fishing everyday for snook, redfish, and speckled trout. For those who only occasionally fish Flamingo here's a tip. When the wind is blowing hard out of the east to northeast quadrants there is still lots of sheltered water (I mean clear sight-fishing conditions) both inside Whitewater and Oyster Bays and along the coast.... Water temps each morning are around 72 degrees and rise to about 76 or 77 by late afternoon. Since we're getting our first serious temperature drop this weekend that will probably change, but not by much. The only downside to this week's weather conditions has been a bumpy ride back to the ramp each day.
There's still clouds of bait along the coast in shallow mud bottomed coves. We've had such quantities that live chumming has been the way to go every afternoon. Watching for birds along the coast has produced some nice spanish mackeral on flies, the few times we've tried.
With the drop in temperature coming, it's probably time to work inside a bit more in coming days but right now the bait, the birds, and most of the fish are still along the coast.
