Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

High winds the past few days had most anglers off of the water. By the end of the week the wind will have subsided and favorable conditions should be on hand for weekend warriors. Before the winds started the fishing and catching was pretty good. On our last day on the water we caught and released our first redfish and snook before 8:00Am on artificials. Whitewater Bay is holding some nice fish right now. Towards the afternoon we shifted gears, netted finger mullet, and proceeded out along the coast working river mouths and places where tiny creeks were draining on the falling tide. We found large concentrations of fat speckled trout along with the usual jacks, ladyfish, and the occasional spanish mackeral. We had continuous action on both bait and lures with hungry fish that would chase anything offerred back to the boat if they weren't hooked up on the first, second, or third bite... John Warren, a visitor from Atlanta, got our best fish of the day along the coast. It was a 30" redfish that weighed 9.5lbs on the Boga-Grip before being released.
Although winter conditions are on the way we still haven't had any really cold water. First thing in the morning, water temps are in the high 60's but by 10Am we're fishing in above 70 degree water for the rest of the day. As the water cools interior bays will have clearer water bringing ideal sight-fishing conditions. As good as the bite has been with soft plastic lures we haven't needed to see the fish while working shorelines. The tremendous amount of finger mullet in the interior and along the coast has everything feeding all day.
