Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

It's been two weeks since my last report and the fishing's been nearly as hot as the weather...
Most of my days have been out of Flamingo where the snook, tarpon, speckled trout and nearly everything else have been taking Gulp shrimp on 1/8 or 1/4oz jig heads. In typical summer fashion, landing a fish along the Gulf coast of the 'Glades requires some quick reflexes and a bit of luck since hungry sharks are everywhere.
My first day featured two young anglers with their grand-dad, local angler Mickey Kleinman, who brought them out for their second 'Glades trip. Several times during the day I couldn't keep one hook on any of eight rods... Once or twice they hooked nice redfish that immediately began jumping like snook.... I think it had something to do with what was trying to eat them...
Jaime Rivero and friend teamed up to jump four tarpon, land a few nice snook, and other species along the Gulf coast as well. The big snook of the day went more than 12lbs on the Boga Grip All were carefully released to fight another day.
The night scene is still on fire as well. Glenn Pritchett and his partner Bailey used light fly rods to go four for four on baby tarpon at night in Biscayne Bay. Bailey connected with his share as well... and I must admit that I don't have any pics at all of the one that promptly jumped into the boat at its first opportunity. I was able to control that fish without much damage to either my rods or the fish. The critter almost jumped into my camera....
Our last fly fishing day in the 'Glades was just a day or two ago, and small popping bugs were all that was needed for a variety of fish for first timer Larry Shackleford from Arkansas. A nice variety of fish came up to attack his bug - everything from snook to snapper... We'll be back at Flamingo this weekend for more action that matches the weather...
Tight lines
