Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

Well, I sit here writing this report hoping very soon that Everglades National Park will re-open. The fishing right before the Government shut down and closed all National Parks, was RED hot!
I was out on the water four days last week. They all started with baby tarpon blowing up our baits/flies and going airborne. We hit the tarpon just right, as there seem to be a mini shrimp hatch going on. Matching our baits to the small shrimp was the key to getting the bites that we did. This is a perfect situation for fly fishing because its a lot easier to "match the hatch" with a fly. We were on the water about 30 minutes before the sun came up, and that also made a big difference in catching those fish.

The redfish and snook continue to be on the flats out front of Flamingo and we took advantage of that when the sun came up. I also fished a few days on the coast out of Flamingo and found lots of bait along the shorelines. We hooked into a few big fish that just took us to school. That is very common this time of year with big fish swimming along the coast with all the bait that is there.
A couple of weeks ago, I fished the Herman Lucerne Memorial Backcountry Tournament. A great tourney in which all the proceeds go to Everglades National Park. We had a great weekend and ended up winning the Guided Fly Divison!

Give me a call to get out on the water!
