Good Snook action!

Capt. Jim Hobales

Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

092311

I am with Nick and his son Marcus from Kansas in for the U.M Vs Kansas State game on Saturday. I spoke to Nick a few weeks agao and explained what could be happening when they got to town. I told him we should have the mullet run going on and the Tarpon wouldn't be to far behind. We got out before first light and had some Tarpon rolling but not the numbers I was hoping for. I netted some mullet and went on to the second spot. They were here, I got our baits out and started drifting as the guys cast Twitch n Raps, I had 1 Ladyfish in the well so I rigged it up. We saw a Tarpon blowing up on a bait, it was our Ladyfish. it was rigged to a circle hook with the rod in the rod holder which generally is the way to go for solid hook ups. The fish ran for 20 seconds and then just let go. We had another eat as we were pulling the bait in, but missed it and didn't return. We had a great treat of watching Tarpon bust baits on a spot I had just told Nick they never get. We caught some Jacks, Trout and Cuda's then ran to the inlet and pitch some baits along the rocks. We ended up with a dozen Snook to 32 inches. We ran from some nasty storm and found some really big Tarpon that were busting mullet but not ours, we fished them for an hour and finally called it a day.

I am over on the west coast today out of Marco Island area with one of my tournament partners Mitch. We have a tournant in 2 weeks so we went pre fishing today. We started out catching 7 Snook and a 25 inch Redfish by 830, we moved on and checked out a few spots. We caught some more fish including a big Trout, Redfish and Mitch had a really nice 10 lb Snook. The importance of pre fishing isn't what you catch it's what you see! We were sitting in a restuarant on the side of the river have some fresh catch anfd a cold beer by 1230 PM.

Flamingo Fishing Forecast:

The Mullet run still in beginning stages but there are lots of fish chasing them
