good Summer Bite

Capt. Ariel Cabrera
June 13, 2010
Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

The bite is better than before all around south Florida waters. There has been much concern and speculation in regards to the oil spill in the Gulf however; waters are just teeming with fish around here. The weather has been nice and warm, and the bay very smooth. This has made for excellent boating and sight fishing conditions. Fishing has been great during early morning and evening trips.

Flamingo Fishing Forecast:

Flamingo continues to see spectacular seatrout action along with snapper, tarpon, and tripletail action. We are still using Fishbites over grass beds and fishing weedless jerkbaits on the refish flats. Most redfish caught are in the slot size this time of year. I have been looking for moving water or a nice tidal current when targeting the trout. For the redfish and tarpon we have been on shallow flats looking for tails and wakes. There are plenty of snapper throughout the area. Just bring a chumbag and sabiki or cast net some pinfish. Cut them up and throw them into your chum slik and you should be in business. You will catch multiple species like jacks, shark, trout, tarpon, and of course, snapper!

In Biscayne Bay, use the same chumming technique in the deeper areas. You will see more variety of snapper and barracuda too. On the flats there has been bonefish on the flats around Soldiers Key and south. Tarpon and permit fishing has also been good while using live crabs and flies. It's going to be a great summer season. I am offering a special 4hr. Biscayne Bay trip on www.halfoffdepot .com/Miami for this summer only. Please visit my website www.captainariel.com for more information or call me directly if you have any questions on fishing or boating.

One more important thing with hurricane season here; don't forget to keep your boat up to speed. What I mean is check your insurance policy and make sure you are current. Consider the agreed value for your boat and equipment and make sure you are covered.
