Flamingo - Saltwater Fishing Report

012798
I'm fishing with Jason and Chris today at Flamingo, it was nice first thing but didn't take long for the wind to pick up. The Power Pole (shallow water anchor) is one of the greatest inventions ever and I along with plenty of others become dependent on it especially on windy days. This morning my Power Pole acted up and didn't allow me to slow or stop in the areas where we pushed up fish forcing me to drift most of the day. We made the best of it and the guys didn't complain their rods were bent all day long but I was frustrated. The really enjoyed the chumming up Sharks and sight fishing them, they caught Sharks, Trout, Jacks, and big Bluefish while battling a solid 25 mph all day.

I'm fishing with Dean, Bill and Chuck in Government Cut our goal is Tarpon but keeping the rod bent is important. The Tarpon were scarce early as the water temperature was 68 degrees but he other species responded. The list is long but we went thru 8 dozen handpicked Shrimp, Mangroves to 18" Hog Snappers to 3 lbs a dozen Groupers Reds,Nassau's, Gag 19"s. This is not to mention all type Grunts Porgies and small Snappers. The Tarpon finally started to roll and we jigged Gulp Shrimp as well as live Shrimp in the schools for a couple hours thru the tide change and couldn't get them to bite. We went into the bay for the rest of the trip and Trout fished and then called it a day.

Flamingo Fishing Forecast:

getting cold again on the 30th with a second front coming during the week. this does make it tough.

The late afternoon / early evening Tarpon bite has been reely good.
